How to pick a personal injury or work comp. lawyer -  5 quick tips.

1. Ask Questions - Most personal injury or worker's compensation attorneys, like Attorney T. Morton, will give you a free initial consultation. During this time, you should ask questions. Some key questions you should ask are:
  • What are the fees?
  • What percentage of the attorney's caseload is dedicated to handling your type of case?
  • How will you know what is going on with your case?
  • Are there hidden fees?
  • What happens after the consultation?
2. Check with the local bar association. Does the attorney have any disciplinary actions against him/her that you find concerning? If so, perhaps discussing your concerns is a necessary next step.
3. Consider the experience the attorney has in dealing with your specific type of case. Experience counts. Ask about it. Additionally, find out if he/she has resources and/or contacts (ex. medical professionals, experts, etc...) that will collaborate with him/her to meet your case's needs.
4. Pay attention to the attentiveness, thoroughness and responsiveness of the attorney. You are more than just another client and should be given the attention you deserve during this difficult time. Are your calls/emails responded to in a timely fashion? Is the attorney taking time to explain to you, in a way that you understand, what is going on with your case? Is it clear that you, and your case, are a priority?
5. Ask for referrals from former clients and/or other attorneys. You may want to consider calling other lawyers (perhaps in non-competing practices) and finding out what the reputation of the attorney you are considering is. Former clients are also likely to give you open and honest insight into what it will be like to work with the attorney.

Choosing an attorney is an important decision. Attorney T. Morton, and her team, are here to serve you. We hope that you will use our five quick tips and consider taking action, with us on your side, today. Call 913.620.7288 or complete our FORM.

Thanks for explaining how you want to consider what kind of resources a workers comp lawyer employs. Finding someone with a lot of quality resources would really be helpful to the success of your case. My husband and I are looking for a lawyer to help us file a worker's comp claim, so we'll have to check their resources first.

It's great that you've mentioned that a worker's compensation lawyer should have resources and contacts that will collaborate with them for your case. I believe that having a wide network is a must for an attorney because it can help improve their chances of winning and at the same time get more information than if they work alone. I'll definitely share this with anyone who might need a worker's compensation lawyer so that they know how to look for the right one.

Thanks for the tip about considering the fees of a worker's comp lawyer before you choose them. Finding someone who charges a reasonable fee would probably be ideal. My husband and I are looking for a worker's comp lawyer to help him with an injury claim, so we'll have to consider their fees first.

My brother was recently injured while handling a project at work and he is thinking about hiring an attorney to make sure he gets the workers compensation that he deserves. It makes a lot of sense that you say to have consultations with your top potential attornies because this would be a great way for my brother to ask questions about their experience and fees. Also, I think it would be a good idea for my brother to choose an attorney who specializes in workers compensation because they will be the most knowedlgeba about his specific case.

I agree that checking with the local bar association is a good idea when choosing a worker's comp lawyer. Finding someone who is qualified and experienced would also be nice. My husband and I are looking for a worker's comp lawyer, so we'll have to check with the bar first.

I like how you pointed out that getting an attorney who has specific experience with the field that you're looking to file a case in--in this instance, workers' compensation--is a big plus since they already know what to do, and how to speak with insurance companies who would refuse payment right out of the gate. Another thing to consider is to ask for referrals since there's bound to be other people who've also encountered the same concern and would be more than willing to help others who are going through the same experience out by recommending the same lawyer that they'd hired previously. If I had the chance to look for a workers' compensation lawyer I would make sure that they are qualified to handle the case so that I can leave it in good hands while recovering at home.

My brother works in landscaping and it gets pretty dangerous sometimes. It would benefit him if he knew the laws of worker's compensation and if he ever needed to be a good lawyer. I'll be sure to tell him that he needs to pay attention to how they respond to calls and emails.

I like that you said that before hiring an attorney is good to check for any disciplinary options against him. My mom is looking for someone that can help her accelerate her process so that they can pay the bills on time. I'm going to help my mom find a good lawyer for her case.

I think having your emails returned in a timely fashion is actually really important to telling if your attorney is a good one. If they prioritize you and your case, you're more likely to have results that you wanted. If they wait a long time to return your calls, you can assume that they don't care much about you or your case.

I appreciate how the article explains that when you are looking for a worker's compensation lawyer, you should make sure to ask them for a referral of a formal client to get honest opinions. My brother recently broke his leg at work and is needing help filing a workers compensation claim. I will suggest that he ask his worker's compensation lawyer for referrals to get honest opinions on them.

Thanks for the tip that I can call up other lawyers to see which professional is capable of taking my case. I think I'll hire a worker's compensation attorney since I have the medical documents that prove that I was injured at work, and my employer has insisted that I should report next week. In addition to that, I had my legs cut off, so there's no way I can return to work without recovering from this first.

My husband, who is a carpenter, had an accident on the site, and this incident caused his left arm to be severely damaged. That's why we're currently looking for a personal injury lawyer that will be able to help him out. I guess your idea of seeking referrals from the other attorneys about my prospective lawyer seems like a great and smart move.

It makes sense that speaking with previous clients can help you determine if an attorney is reputable. My brother recently broke his ankle when he fell down the stairs at work, and he needs to file for worker's compensation since he cannot do his job without standing up. Maybe he should find a reputable professional to help him with his case.

I hadn't thought about asking many questions when looking for an attorney, such as how they will know what is currently going on with the case. My husband's mom was injured recently and work and doesn't know what the best next steps are. I think they should look into finding a worker's compensation lawyer that can help them feel supported and that they will get something for her injuries.

It's good to know that you need to ask what their fees are. My husband works at a construction site, and last night he fell due to some faulty equipment which caused him to injure his leg really badly, and he wants to find a good lawyer to help him with compensation. I'll make sure to pass this information along to him so that he can know how to find a good lawyer for workers' compensation.
